McClelland Task Force
on the Alberta Agenda
Strengthening
Alberta's Role in Confederation

On November 15,
2003, Premier Ralph Klein announced the formation of a government MLA
Committee which would be holding public hearings on
"Strengthening Alberta's Role in Confederation".
This Committee
will be "talking to Albertans across the province about the
current state of relations between Alberta and the federal
government, and how Alberta's role in Canada can be improved or strengthened."
"The
committee will look at both constitutional and non-constitutional
issues, and will explore a broad range of issues including current
and historical successes in the federal-provincial relationship;
challenges and difficulties in the relationship; and how possible
changes might be achieved.
"It will also
review matters such as establishing an Alberta Pension Plan, an
Alberta police service and a separate Alberta tax collection system." (From
the Government of Alberta's press release)
